THE Queensland-based La Spina family have long been supporters of the Bathurst Gold Crown Carnival and come Saturday night, they will renew their bid to find success in one of the feature series.
They will chase glory in the Bathurst Gold Crown.
While the La Spinas took out the 2007 Gold Tiara for two-year-old fillies with Armida, the family is yet to hoist the Gold Crown trophy as winning owners and breeders of the leading two-year-old colt/gelding.
This year they look to have a contender in the Rickie Alchin, Menangle Park trained and driven Regulus.
Sired by former New Zealand champion Christian Cullen, he will have his third career run in Saturday’s 1,730 metres Gold Crown heat.
On debut he ran a half head second after racing roughly and dropping a knee boot, while his next run on March 13 saw him salute in a 1:55.6 mile rate. The effort included a hot 27.3 seconds final quarter.
