The fun loving “do-it-yourself-ers” from the hit TV show ‘The Block’ were guests at the event held in conjunction with the Bathurst Farmers’ Markets.
Upwards of 4,000 people attended the event keen not only to meet the celebrity guests, but have a look at sustainable living options, like green design and construction, solar power and gardening, and talk to the experts leading the way in change.
Mayor of Bathurst, Graeme Hanger, said the day was “absolutely fantastic.”
“I was talking to Paul Haysom and he said there were 79 stalls at the Farmers’ Markets on Saturday because the expo was on.
“There were a further 29 stalls at the Sustainable Living Expo, so the whole thing was like a mini show, it was just phenomenal.
“The two celebrity guests (Sticks and Wombat) were fantastic and we were absolutely blessed with perfect weather,” he said.
Cr Hanger said the crowds who came to the event didn’t leave disappointed.
“Sticks and Wombat bounced off each other, people were queuing up early to get a chair to listen to these guys, they do what they do and they are brilliant at it, people loved them” he said.
Cr Hanger said people also took the opportunity to walk around and talk to experts about sustainable living options.
“It was great people could see what’s available to them,” he said.
Cr Hanger said the day was a great community event, and Bathurst Regional Council and the Lions Club were to be congratulated.
Record gate takings were made on the day, which will be used to fund various community projects in the city.
