The Bureau of Meteorology had forecast an overnight minimum of just four degrees Celsius across the Bathurst region on Tuesday morning, which would have been the coldest start to a day in more than four months.
According to figures taken at the official weather station at Bathurst Airport, though, it was even chillier than that.
The mercury dropped to two degrees Celsius at 7am, the coldest overnight minimum since the 0.5 recorded on October 2 last year.
And the apparent temperature was even worse, falling to -0.9 degrees Celsius at 6.30am.
Despite the cold start to the day, though, the bureau is still predicting a perfect autumn day across the Bathurst region with a top of 25 degrees.
