Lawrence Trindall, 26, was arrested by police without incident at a home in Greville Street, Kelso just after 9pm on Monday.
Police instigated a manhunt across the city following Sunday’s brazen armed robbery where it is alleged Trindall entered a pharmacy in the Bathurst Chase shopping centre, walked straight behind the counter and held a steak knife to the ribs of a 25-year-old pharmacist who was working there.
It is further alleged he demanded drugs from the safe housed at the rear of the pharmacy.
The female pharmacist was not physically injured in the incident. Two other people who were in the pharmacy at the time of the robbery were also unharmed.
Chifley Police District crime manager Detective Inspector Luke Rankin said Monday night’s arrest was a good result for the community.
Police reviewed CCTV footage taken from the pharmacy, the Coles supermarket and the shopping centre following the alleged robbery, and assigned additional detectives to the case.
“Arresting the accused was our absolute priority,” Detective Inspector Rankin said.
“Thankfully robberies are unusual events for Bathurst and armed robberies are even fewer.
“This [alleged offence] was brazen, it occurred at 10am in a busy shopping centre.
“We invested all of our resources into it.
“We rapidly identified an alleged suspect and were persistent in our efforts to apprehend him.”
Inspector Rankin said police arrested Trindall at the Kelso property without incident.
Police were monitoring addresses the accused had associations with.
“We saw him inside and went in and arrested him,” he said.
Inspector Rankin said police will allege they recovered proceeds from the armed robbery. Items allegedly seized by police will undergo further examination.
After his arrest Trindall was charged with with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon, strictly indictable and larceny, and refused bail by police.
He appeared before magistrate Michael Allen on Tuesday, made no bail application and was formally refused bail by the magistrate.
Mr Allen made orders for the brief to be served to the Aboriginal Legal Service in Bathurst by May 7 for replies on May 21.
