She may have missed out on Australian selection for the Rio Olympics two years ago, but CSU student Kaarle McCulloch was one of the stars on track for the national cycling team at the Gold Coast.
She snared gold in the women’s team sprint and 500 metres time trial, bronze in the women’s sprint then in her final ride of the Games at Anna Meares Velodrome, added a silver to her tally.
After placing second then third in her qualifying ride, McCulloch placed second in Sunday’s women’s keirin final behind Australian team-mate Steph Morton.
In the end 0.079 seconds separated the duo as they averaged over 66km/hr.
“Sitting in the crowd in Rio and I thought to myself I’ve got this burning desire in my stomach,” McCulloch said.
“What a cracking four days! Two gold, a silver and a bronze. Not bad at all! Thanks Australia!”
