The book tells the story of the bushranger gang, including Frank Gardiner and Ben Hall, that pulled off a gold robbery at Eugowra Rocks in 1862.
They escaped with 77 kilograms of gold, worth about $10 million today – which still makes it the largest gold robbery in Australian history.
Phelps has written a number of books about the nation’s toughest prisons and those incarcerated in them, including Australia’s Toughest Prison: Inmates, Green Is The New Black: Inside Australia’s Hardest Women’s Jails and Australia’s Most Murderous Prison: Behind The Walls Of Goulburn Jail.
He also co-wrote car racing legend Dick Johnson’s autobiography.
