Before the hot temperatures really hit, the Bathurst Rural Fire Brigade will hold its annual Get Ready Weekend this Saturday at the Adventure Playground at Victoria Park.
“We would like to encourage families to come along and talk about how to prepare their homes in the event of a bushfire,” Bathurst Rural Fire Brigade community engagement officer Shane Thomas said.
“In recent weeks, as we head into spring, we have seen a number of fires develop quickly to threaten lives and property, so it is a timely reminder to get ready.”

Along with fire trucks on display and bushfire educational material to hand out, there will be rides and face-painting for the kids, wood-fired pizza, coffee and a sausage sizzle cooked by the Scouts.
As well, local police will be part of the day, as will Fire and Rescue, the SES, ambulance paramedics, St John’s and a local forestry firefighting unit.
The Crash Rescue and Investigation Unit will even have a crashed vehicle on display, according to Mr Thomas.
The Get Ready Weekend event will be held from 10am to 3pm at the Adventure Playground.
