The event saw a sausage sizzle run in tandem with a special Return and Earn presence encouraging locals to donate to the Carillon upgrade.
The Carillon upgrade was added as a donation option to Bathurst’s Return and Earn reverse vending machines in mid-December.
“It has certainly raised awareness about the importance of the Carillon,” councilor Monica Morse said.
Cr Morse said the fundraiser was a positive step for the Carillon upgrade, with the funds raised last weekend expected to go towards the installation of a clavier.
“With the clavier’s installation, each keyboard has to be wired up to the bells,” she said.
The clavier installation project is expected to cost around $260,000, and Cr Morse concedes that there is a long way to go yet.
“We hope to get fundraising operations going again in February when more people return from holidays,” she said.
