A MAN has died after his car hit a tree north of Bathurst on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to McDonalds Creek, about 10 kilometres from Mudgee, after the man's station wagon left the Castlereagh Highway and hit the tree about 6am.
The driver - and only occupant - died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.
