* Victoria recorded its eighth straight day without a new virus case.

* New South Wales recorded one new locally acquired case of COVID-19.

* Two infections were reported in South Australia, a woman in her 40s and a man in his 30s. Both are returned travellers and in hotel quarantine.

* Tasmania will accept 450 Australians stranded overseas by the coronavirus pandemic between now and year's end, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced. Three flights are expected to touch down between now and the end of the year.

* Tasmania will reopen itself to international flights with New Zealand for the first time in more than two decades. The first flight is likely to touch down in late January.

* NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Friday ramped up pressure on her WA and Queensland counterparts to follow Tasmania's lead in reopening borders to avoid the "devastating impact" of job losses.

* An enforcement blitz targeting Victorian businesses and workplaces that pose a high risk of COVID-19 transmission is under way with the state's health minister saying compliance checks could see stragglers hit with fines of up to $10,000.
