Boasting an iconic location and spectacular views over four hectares of lush vineyards, Algona Mount Panorama Estate is an idyllic spot for weddings, corporate functions and celebratory events.
“We have an beautiful venue with amazing views in the centre of a famous race track, so it appeals to everyone,” says Lee Baxter, who owns Algona and runs all events at the property with talented Head Chef Brian Cook. “We also offer a very personalised and professional service – our clients deal with Brian and myself from start to finish and we are literally hands-on during every event.”
With over 10 years of experience in à la carte dining, silver service and premium catering, Brian presents a number of enticing menu options. “We can create anything from cocktail platters to seven-course degustation menus, and everything in between,” says Brian. “I work with all clients to specifically tailor the menu to suit their event.” Algona is also producing its own wine, in conjunction with Peter McGrath of McGrath Wines. “Our ‘Six Row’ Semillion is a coolclimate wine that can be served at your special event. For us it’s a celebration of the hard work that has been put into Algona since we purchased the property two years ago,” explains Lee.
Earthout
Created to provide locals and visitors to Bathurst with “experiences, workshops and conversations inspired by nature”, EarthOut was established in 2011 by Deb Bardem. “My aim was to collaborate with talented locals to provide people with the opportunity to introduce some work/life balance,” says Deb. “That can mean opting to enjoy anything from a romantic dinner for two in a secluded spot in the bush to an African drumming workshop, a behind-the-scenes look at winemaking or a digital photography class in the outdoors.” One of EarthOut’s most popular experiences to date has been ‘Eat, Pray, Love’, whereby a group of women come together for a pasta making class and a weekend of yoga, picnics, massages and bushwalks. “It’s a wonderful way to escape with a few girlfriends and just focus on yourself for a couple of days,” explains Deb.
“The experience offers a great mix of fun and complete relaxation.” As well as utilising some of Bathurst’s finest galleries, wineries and private studios, Deb has established a campsite on her beautiful property, which backs onto Eusdale Nature Reserve. “It’s ideal for those who love the idea of camping but don’t want to bother with the setup,” says Deb. “This is where you can really take some time out and see everything from kangaroos and wallabies to wombats, goannas and kookaburras in their native environment.” Well, what are you waiting for?
Abercrombie House
Originally built by Bathurst pioneer James Stewart back in the 1870s, Abercrombie House is a glorious Tudor Gothic mansion that covers 210 square metres and comprises 52 rooms, seven staircases, 29 fireplaces and a stunning ballroom with a gold-leaf ceiling. “My parents, Rex and Mary Morgan, bought Abercrombie House in 1969,” recalls Christopher Morgan, who resides in the mansion with his parents, wife Xanthe and teenage children Julia and Henry. “It was the start of a great adventure to restore the property, gardens and outbuildings, and I have since made the restoration my lifetime’s work.” According to Christopher, visitors to the property really respond to the fact that it is still lived in and is therefore very much alive. “As our guests explore the house and grounds they enjoy finding evidence of modern life among the artefacts,” he explains. “Most people are impressed by the Scottish Baronial architecture, the impressive size of the house and the elegance of the age it represents – it’s like a small Australian version of Downtown Abbey!” Along with guided and self-guided tours, Abercrombie House hosts everything from concerts and candlelit dinners to high teas and weddings. “We’ve had many weddings in the gardens and the ballroom, and we are currently restoring a Gothic chapel on the property,” adds Christopher. “Abercrombie House is a very special place and we really enjoy sharing it with locals and visitors to Bathurst.”
