An experienced police prosecutor in the Sydney suburban courts has accepted the permanent position attached to the Bathurst Local Court Circuit.

Sgt Brett Donaghy jumped at the chance to apply for the position vacated by Sgt Terry Lucas who left the police to become a Local Court magistrate.
Sgt Donaghy was jubilant when he secured the job. He was educated in the Penrith area and has spent most of his life in Sydney before joining the police service.
Sgt Donaghy has been a policeman since 1990. He spent 18 months as a general duties officer before choosing a career in the prosecution branch.
After 11-years working in metropolitan courts, mostly at Penrith and Blacktown, Sgt Donaghy worked for three and a half years at Cobham Children's Court.
While attached to the Bathurst Court Circuit, Sgt Donaghy will be responsible for prosecuting cases at Bathurst, Blayney, Oberon, Rylstone, Mudgee, Dunedoo and Gulgong Court Houses.
"I came to Bathurst as a relieving prosecutor and loved the place," Sgt Donaghy said yesterday.
"From time to time I visited Bathurst and couldn't be happier now that I've moved here permanently. It's such a lovely place to live, I like the climate, too."
Sgt Donaghy, his wife Carolyn and four-year-old daughter Megan have settled into a house at Eglinton and are getting to know their neighbours and making new friends.
Once he's established Sgt Donaghy said he's looking forward to setting-up his lathe and backyard garage, pursuing his hobby of woodcraft,wood turning and furniture making.
Sgt Shane Cunningham will continue to work as the second prosecutor out of Bathurst.
