It's been a drawn out process to reach this stage, serious planning for the centre began back in 1997.
In addition to getting approval from council and the local Catholic congregation, the school also required the all clear from the superior general of the Vincentian Fathers in Rome.
Formal clearance has yet to be given however principal of St Stanislaus College, John Edwards, said consultation with the superior general indicates approval is forthcoming.
Mr Edwards said approval from Rome was required to accomodate existing requirements.
"The regulations are in place to ensure all debts are properly serviced," he explained.
Mr Edwards said the centre, which will be built on land overlooking the No 1 oval, will continue the school's long standing tradition of supporting the city's cultural life.
"The heritage listed Marble Hall has hosted a range of performances over the years and this new Performing Arts Centre will continue this tradition," he said.
Mr Edwards also said the design of the centre is in harmony with the school's existing heritage listed buildings.
"This will ensure the buildings of St Stanislaus College continue to be one of the great architectural treasures of the Central West and Australia," he said.
