A WOMAN who was growing six cannabis plants in a self-watering hydroponic system behind her wardrobe has been fined $1000 and placed on an 18-month good behaviour bond., Donna-Lee Camplin, 26, formerly of Kenny Place, Bathurst, and now of Marayong in western Sydney, appeared in Bathurst Local Court on Monday for sentence on two cannabis charges., She had earlier pleaded guilty to cultivating six cannabis plants on September 27 in Bathurst; and possessing 50g of cannabis., Camplin was given the 18-month good behaviour bond for cultivating the cannabis plants, requiring her to accept the supervision of the Probation and Parole Service, and fined $1000, plus $59 court costs, for possessing dried cannabis. , Camplin was assessed suitable for the Magistrates' Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) program, which she completed., Legal Aid solicitor Leigh Haywood said Camplin's report from MERIT was "extremely positive”, indicating Camplin had improved family ties, ceased medication and was participating in counselling., Ms Haywood said Camplin had fully committed herself to the MERIT program., Magistrate Allan Moore said whether Camplin continued rehabilitation "is another matter”., He said he was "not totally convinced” someone who was a casual drug user would grow six plants in such a sophisticated manner., Police executed a search warrant at Camplin's home in Kenny Place on September 27, 2002. , Full story in the Western Advocate.
