Carole McDiarmid is new regional education director

BATHURST woman Carole McDiarmid has been appointed Department of Education and Training's new Western NSW Regional Director under the department's new administration structure., Director-General of the Department of Education and Training Jan McClelland made the announcement yesterday., "I would like to congratulate Ms McDiarmid on her appointment to this important role,” Ms McClelland said., "She is very well qualified for the job and was selected from a strong field of candidates,” she said., "This new structure has given the department a renewed focus on supporting frontline teachers and school staff.”, Ms McDiarmid has a long history of involvement in Western Region schools, commencing as teacher-in-charge of Spring Terrace Public School in 1975., She has held a number of executive positions in schools across Western NSW, including principal of Wattle Flat and Bowen Public schools., She has also lectured at Charles Sturt University (CSU)., Since 1992, Ms McDiarmid has held several senior positions in the NSW Department of Education and Training, including cluster director, director of schools, and district superintendent for Bathurst., Her most recent appointment was as district superintendent for the Orange district., Ms McClelland said Ms McDiarmid is one of 10 regional directors who represent the start of significant cultural and service delivery changes in the department, with a focus on creative solutions., "The regional structure, which starts when school returns later this month, further improves the quality of educational services and outcomes that already characterise the NSW public school system.”, Ms McClelland said moving to a regional structure provides, among other things, closer working relations with TAFE institutes and the ability to provide better responses to local issues., "The creation of 43 school educational areas within the regional structure also ensures that support services, such as curriculum consultants, welfare and training experts, remain close to local schools,” she said., The 10 regions are Sydney, Western Sydney, South Western Sydney, Northern Sydney, Riverina, Hunter/Central Coast, Illawarra/South Coast, New England, North Coast and Western NSW., The Western NSW Region office is in Dubbo, with school educational areas in Bathurst, Bourke, Broken Hill, Dubbo and Orange., Two hundred and three public schools are in the region.
