South Bathurst Hockey Club was formed in 1957 by the then headmaster of South Bathurst Public School, Graham Cooper.
Now 50 years later, Souths boast five senior men's, five senior women's and 10 junior teams from its humble beginning of just one junior side.
This junior team, 12 years and under, marked out a ground in Centennial Park and with the blessing of the headmaster, practised on Friday afternoons as their sporting activity in the school's curriculum.
The team comprised Kevin Couter, Daryl Reece, John Griffiths, Graham Howell, Graham and Dennis Elliott, Bruce Thurgood, Klaus Delfs, Robert Donnelly, John Jones and Gavin Marden.
The club's success has been built on strong mateship and sporting strengths.
Souths have an enviable record which has withstood the tests of time and is the envy of many sporting clubs across the region.
Souths Colts first grade side won nine consecutive men's premierships from 1980 to 1988.
Souths also has numerous winning premiership sides in both the women's and junior grades.
Souths have had three players represent Australia – Warwick Campbell, Glen Buttsworth and Wayne Morgan – and numerous players have represented NSW in all ages divisions.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, Souths are planning a weekend of celebrations, culminating in a dinner on Saturday, August 4, at Panthers Leagues Club starting at 6.30pm, where past and present members are invited to reminisce with their team-mates.
On display at the Saturday night reunion will be an honour board of past presidents and bearing many photographs of past and present players. There will also be a DVD presentation.
Former members of the club have been invited to attend Saturday's Premier League Hockey games and then on to celebrate at the 50-year dinner.
