Joe Kubizniak, 33, has been TA’s coach development co-ordinator for NSW/ACT since August and yesterday made his first trip to the Central West in this position.
Sydney-based Kubizniak put eight people through an orientation to coaching course (OTC) at Eglinton after club professional Rod Schumacher approached TA for assistance.
In 2007 no Australian won a Grand Slam singles event, whereas exactly 10 years (Pat Rafter, 1997 US Open) and 20 years (Pat Cash, 1987 Wimbledon) ago Australia tasted success in one of world tennis’ big four. Rafter went on to win the 1998 US Open.
In the world singles rankings, Australia has just two males (Lleyton Hewitt 21st and Peter Luczak 79th) and four females (Samantha Stosur 46th, Alicia Molik 56th, Nicole Pratt 70th and Casey Dellacqua 86th) in the top 100.
