Michael John Faulkner was refused bail at a bedside hearing yesterday morning at Bathurst Hospital.
Faulkner has been charged with the murder of 37-year-old Julie Anne Dawson.
At around 8.15pm Friday police were called to a residence at Miriyan Drive, Kelso following a report to the 000 line.
Police and ambulance officers arrived at the house where they found Ms Dawson’s body.
She is believed to have been stabbed a number of times. A post mortem will officially establish the cause of her death.
They also found Faulkner suffering a number of self-inflicted stab wounds to his stomach. He was taken to Bathurst Hospital where he underwent surgery.
Forensic officers examined the crime scene into the early hours of Saturday morning and local detectives have taken statements from neighbours.
Faulkner was charged by officers from Strike Force Findlay on Saturday night.
A bedside bail hearing was held at Bathurst Hospital at 10am yesterday.
Faulkner will remain in custody pending his next court appearance on Friday May 16.
He is in a stable condition under police guard.
