David James Moller, 26 was before the court pleading guilty to having goods in custody suspected of being stolen or unlawfully obtained at the Bathurst Court House.
Moller who gave a Rocket Street, Bathurst address had been arrested in Bathurst after residents of Abercrombie contacted police about a man acting suspiciously in the vicinity of Darwin Drive, Abercrombie on the night of Tuesday, November 12. Moller told police who came across him near Country Way he’d been trying to get assistance to travel to Merrygoew in Western NSW. He had been asking about ways to get to Dunedoo.
Moller the police said had been found in possession of the NSW licence, Mastercard, Sydney Credit Union Visa card, Fairfax Media Access, Australian Journalists’ Association and Woollara Library card all in the name of David John Brearley of Bondi.
According to Moller he found Brearley’s property on a train to Newcastle about September 27, saying he had tried to telephone the owner of the cards without success.
However, police made checks and discovered attempts had twice been made to obtain $500 in cash from automatic tellers when incorrect pin numbers resulted in access being denied on Brearley’s a credit card.
Not only had Moller come to notice in Bathurst, police in Lithgow had spoken to him when he had Brearley’s cards, apparently Moller had made no attempt to return the property.
Magistrate Thomas Hodgson convicted and fined Moller $273 for having goods in custody, ordering the property to be returned to the owner.
