A WOMAN who stole a torch from a service station in Bathurst while on parole has been ordered to work 100 hours unpaid for the community as an alternative to jail by the Bathurst Local Court.

Kylie Michelle Greenfield, aged 24, was convicted by magistrate Jan Stevenson over larceny of the $8 torch from the United Service Station about 11am on Wednesday, September 9 when she appeared at the Bathurst Court House.
Ms Stevenson ordered Greenfield, of Upfold Street, Gormans Hill to report to the Probation and Parole Service as a condition of the orders and accept supervision in drug and alcohol counselling in a personal development program.
Police told the court Greenfield had gone to the service station where she selected items and placed them on a counter at the time she took the torch and card from a gift display, placing them in her purse.
While Greenfield had paid for items on the counter, she had not paid for the torch or card.
Greenfield had, however, returned to the service station about 1.50pm, making an attempt to make use of the gift card without paying.
Greenfield had left a phone number which had been handed to police investigating the theft of the torch after the defendant had been identified stealing on closed circuit security television.
