John Andrew Young, 32, was sentenced by Local Court magistrate, Jan Stevenson to serve a back dated nine months non parole before he becomes eligible for release in May, 2010 to undertake supervised Probation and Parole Service parole.

Ms Stevenson heard how Young, of Bligh Street, Oberon had intimidated a family causing them to fear physical or mental harm on December 5 last year.

Acting police prosecutor, Sergeant Phillip Donato tendered statements of facts outlining how Young yelled out threats as the family returned home to find their front door architrave damaged and wire door latches broken so the door would not shut.

Entering the house the family discovered the dwelling had been broken into through an unlocked bedroom window. Items had been moved in the house and some belongings appeared to have been stolen, the statement said.

The victims had heard Young outside yelling threats, police said. Including a threat to “fire bomb your car”, if he found out they had made statements to police about him causing malicious damage.

Police said Young told the family he would “stomp on their heads” when they told him to go home. Young had said “don’t worry I’ll be back” when the concerned family contacted police.

Young was jailed for 12 months with a non parole period of nine months for stalking and intimidating the family and concurrent six months over the damage he caused to the door of the house. The magistrate also jailed Young over breach of apprehended orders on April 12 this year.

A further concurrent three months jail sentence was imposed by Ms Stevenson over Young’s possession of two grams of cannabis prison officers found in his possession about 1.30pm on November 1 at the Bathurst Correctional Centre.

Prison officers had observed two female visitors kiss Young on the mouth. They had approached Young who swallowed a balloon he said was “full of pot”. About 2.45pm the same day Young had given prison staff an orange balloon containing cannabis.
