A WOMAN who assaulted a receptionist as she attempted to deal with an employment inquiry at the Central West Community College in Bathurst earlier this year, has been fined more than $500 by Bathurst Local Court.

Police said that Cherie Dodkin, 31, had gone to the college in Bentinck Street about 9.45am on Tuesday, February 9 to discuss her employment situation at a Bathurst restaurant when she became upset and angry, and staff tried without success to calm her down.
Dodkin, of Eleven Mile Drive, had been in conversation with the college receptionist, police prosecutor Sergeant Brett Donaghy said tendering a statement of facts during an ex parte hearing at Bathurst Court House.
Sgt Donaghy said college staff had attempted to calm Dodkin down over about five minutes. The office manager had intervened leading the distraught woman to the door away from the receptionist’s desk.
According to police, Dodkin returned to the counter where the receptionist had been taking
a phone call, the defendant had become agitated and angry again discussing her employment
status, the receptionist had tried to activate a “panic button”.
Police said Dodkin had pushed a large perspex brochure holder at the receptionist leaving a 7cm scratch on her left arm and another minor upper arm scratch 10cm above her left wrist.
Dodkin, police said had leant over the counter and pushed a computer monitor causing pain and discomfort to the victim of the assault.
When police arrived at the college they found the brochure holder broken with a sharp edge, the receptionist had suffered scratches, a reddish mark and bruises.
Police had interviewed Dodkin on February 18 some days after the incident. She told police she had been angry and upset.
Relying upon the police statement of facts to record a conviction magistrate Jan Stevenson
fined Dodkin $526 allowing 28 days to pay.
