A TWENTY-TWO year old man has been charged over the death of a 26-year-old woman who died following a collision between a motorcycle and transit van on Bathurst’s outskirts in July last year.

The bike rider Joshua David Booth, of Sofala Road, Bathurst has been charged with negligent driving occasioning the death of Jess McLeod, a single mother who died in an accident between 2.50pm and 3.10pm on O’Connell Road eight kilometres from Bathurst on Sunday, July 4.
Booth’s case was mentioned for the first time before the Bathurst Local Court last week before being adjourned for further mention on Monday, February 14 at the Bathurst Court House.
The single charge of negligent driving occasioning death, was formally laid by Bathurst Police against Booth on Friday, October 8 last year.
Booth was represented by solicitor James Horsburgh in the brief hearing before magistrate Jan Stevenson allowed an adjournment for police to serve a brief of evidence and Booth to consider a plea.
The tragic accident occurred around 3pm when a Kawasaki road bike and a Ford transit van collided, with the bike also hitting a cement drain at the scene. The impact threw the pillion passenger, Ms McLeod from the bike into a telegraph pole at the road side.
Bystanders provided assistance to Booth, who suffered injuries to his leg and shoulder, until ambulance officers arrived.
Ms McLeod had been transported suffering critical head injuries to the Bathurst Base Hospital, however, she died a short time later. She was the mother of a baby son Logan who was only a few weeks away from celebrating his first birthday when his mother died.
