Jack Aubin was a man who loved his garden, was devoted to Rotary, and lived a wonderful life, his wife Ruth said yesterday.

Mr Aubin, a well-known community leader, passed away yesterday morning at Bathurst Private Hospital. He was 90 years old.
“His heart had worn out,” Mrs Aubin said.
The couple were married in 1951 and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in November.
Mr Aubin is also survived by a son, Warren, and a daughter, Dianne Hope, as well as four grandchildren, Blake, Kyle, Zali and Andrew, and a great grandson, Cooper.
Jack Aubin was born in Bathurst at Strathmore on February 5, 1921.
His childhood was spent living at Orton Park, where his father, Reg, owned a dairy.
Mr Aubin attended Mrs Walker’s School, then South Bathurst School and Bathurst High School.
The family moved into Bathurst when Reg sold the property and, with his brother Norman, started Aubin Bros, a Ford dealership.
After finishing school Mr Aubin did a course in mechanics, working at the family garage until he joined the army in December 1941.
He served in 2/4th Australian Armoured Regi-ment. The majority of his military service was carried out in New Guinea. He was discharged on May 6, 1946.
After the dealership was sold in 1958 Mr Aubin opened a spare parts business in the Southern Mitchell building before it moved to lower George Street, where Mr Aubin stayed until his retirement.
His son, Warren, worked alongside him for a number of years.
When Warren bought his own business, IPEC, there was a reversal of roles, and Mr Aubin helped him out by doing the Oberon run, something he thoroughly enjoyed.
However, it was for his community service that Jack Aubin will long be remembered.
He was involved in Rotary for 49 years. During this time he made two return trips to New Guinea with Rotary’s Fifth Avenue in Motion, helping to build schools.
He served as president from 1969 to 1970 and again from 1993 to 1994.
Mr Aubin also served as District Governor from 1988 to 1989. He was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship and Rotary’s highest honour, Service Above Self.
Mr Aubin was president of Bathurst Probus Club and was named Citizen of the Year in 1998.
