The first will be held at the War Memorial Carillon in Kings Parade tomorrow and the main service is scheduled at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park on Sunday.
Both events will start at 11am.
Bathurst Vietnam Veterans Association president, Kevin McDiarmid, said it’s an important time to remember Australia’s military involvement in a war which was the longest of any in Australia’s history.
“The Vietnam War went from 1962 until 1972 and involved some 60,000 personnel,” he said.
“As a result of the conflict 521 died during the war and more than 3000 were injured.
“The Battle of Long Tan on August 18, 1966 was chosen as the date to mark Vietnam Veterans Day.”
Mr McDiarmid said veterans should gather at the Carillon at 10.30am tomorrow for the parade fall-in ahead of the
official welcome, call to worship and prayers, laying of wreaths, Last Post, memorial to the fallen, one minute’s silence, the Reveille and national anthem.
He said marchers should fall-in for Sunday’s ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park on Boundary Road from 10.35am.
