The Western Advocate reported last month that a custom-built Holden Adventra 4x4, which Brock was planning to race when he was killed in an accident in 2006, may make an appearance at the Great Race in October.
However engineer Robert D’Ercole yesterday confirmed that the Adventra, which is to be auctioned on October 15, would not visit Bathurst.
“There were a lot of factors, the most critical being time,” Mr D’Ercole said.
“It wasn’t something we had planned to do, though we did consider it when it was raised. In the end, it just wasn’t possible.”
Brock was a nine-time winner of the Bathurst 1000. He was killed in September 2006 when his car hit a tree during a rally in Western Australia. Before the accident, the champion driver had been planning to compete in the famous Dakar rally in his custom-built Adventra.
Mr D’Ercole had signed a deal with Brock to design the car and co-ordinate the Dakar assault.
The engineer shelved the project after Brock’s death, however, decided more than two years ago to approach the Peter Brock Foundation to suggest he complete the car to raise money for charity.
The car will make its only public appearance at Sotheby’s Australia in Sydney from October 13 to 15, before it is sold to the highest bidder.
“People have contacted us to see if the car would go to Bathurst, so there we had quite a bit of interest,” Mr D’Ercole said. “We also had queries about what will happen to the car when it’s sold.
“But that’s up to the new owner.”
Race fans can still pay tribute to the King of the Mountain by having their name permanently added to the car for a donation of $25 each or $100 for a business.
The proceeds from the initiative, though not the sale of the vehicle, will be donated to the Cathy Freeman Foundation.
“The well-being of indigenous Australian children was close to Peter’s heart and he would be happy to know how his unfulfilled dream of the Dakar is helping in this way,” Mr D’Ercole said in August.
