The team won the national breakfast restaurant award on Monday night, which was hosted at Luna Park, and co owner Ross McDonald said the award did come as a surprise.
“We had won the central west best breakfast restaurant, which put us in the Sydney competition and then we went on to win that, putting us as the NSW finalist,” Mr McDonald said.
“We were up against finalists from all the state and territories and even though it was a one in eight chance of winning, it was still a shock when we won.”
The Hub, along with all the other restaurants competing in the Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Awards were critiqued by a panel of judges on three separate occassions.
“We didn’t know when the judges were coming so they could have been here on a weekday or on the weekend,” Mr McDonald said.
“Our success is due to all our staff, our head chef Bryan Anton is passionate about food and barista Binod Gautum is one of the newest members to our team and a great barista.”
The Hub’s owners – Lindsay and Sue Gale, Ross McDonald and Nicole Welch – took over in 2008, aiming to improve standard of food and coffee.
“We are continuing striving to do better,” Mr McDonald said.
