The girls were selected from a field of 1500 students throughout Australia.
The Year 9 students were among 500 interviewed and will join the 140 students nationwide who were selected for the American Field Services (AFS) scholarships.
Head of School Dr Peter Miller said he and the school were delighted for the girls.
“They are wonderful girls, terrific
students, and this honour is very well-deserved,” Dr Miller said.
“They will gain a tremendous amount from the opportunity to visit another
country and experience another culture first-hand.”
All Saints’ College has a long tradition of teaching Japanese.
Studying the Japanese language and
culture is compulsory for all students from Kindergarten up until the end of Year 7.
Courtenay and Charlotte have been studying Japanese as an elective and language teacher David Pike is really
excited for them.
Mr Pike has first-hand knowledge of the country the girls are going to visit as he lived in Japan for 10 years.
“This trip to Japan and the scholarship will add a wonderful new dimension to studying Japanese and I know that Courtenay and Charlotte will benefit
enormously from the experience,” Mr Pike said.
“We await eagerly their stories when they return.”
