And right at its heart is a sparkling fountain.
The fountain was dedicated in memory of the late Danny White, one of the community’s true gentlemen.
The Danny White Memorial Fountain was donated by the Bathurst Prostate Cancer Support Group.
Mr White was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1999 and passed away in 2007.
The garden and fountain were officially opened to the public yesterday.
Daffodil Cottage Advisory Council chair, Peta Gurdon-O’Meara, said those involved with Daffodil Cottage wanted a place where patients could meditate and reflect in peace.
She said the garden has been planted with lavender and rosemary and has a pink and white theme.
It was designed and planted by landscape designer Gray Taylor of Alessandro Gardens.
The next stage of the project will be the addition of more seating and a shade structure.
As the plants grow over the next 12 months they will create private garden rooms.
Ms Gurdon-O’Meara said the garden was only made possible by the generous donations of the Bathurst community.
The Bathurst Garden Club members volunteer their time to maintain it.
Daffodil Cottage Advisory Council member Gen Croaker reminded the gathering that the Greater Western Area Health Service had described Daffodil Cottage as nothing more than bricks and mortar.
“I assure you it is more than that,” she said.
“It has a soul.”
The Bathurst Prostate Cancer Support Group’s John Trollor said Danny White would have been humbled by the dedication of the fountain in his name.
“He was a generous and selfless man,” he said.
A number of members of Mr White’s family attended yesterday’s ceremony.
