Olive Lockett, who has already enjoyed success in the modelling industry was named the Australian Top Model at the NSW Country Model of the Year titles, which was held at Bathurst Panthers.
This year’s beauty pageant attracted the largest number of entries ever, with girls coming from across NSW and Victoria to compete in the titles.
Title organiser, Tom Pratley said 73 men and women competed in the competition, and had it not been for floods ravaging the region at the time, the number of entries would have been higher.
Mr Pratley said Olive was outstanding on the catwalk.
“Olive has previously come to the attention of several modelling agencies and after the success of the competition received a contract from Gordon Charles, owner of Platform Models in Sydney.
“Gordon was one of the judges at the pageant and will become Olive’s manager.
“Olive will be featured in Fashion Week (which began on Monday) and model clothing for leading designers,” Mr Pratley said.
Olive’s mum, Fiona Wookey said Olive has already had a ball in Sydney attending a preliminary fashion week event for VIPs at the Sheraton Hotel at Darling Harbour.
Mrs Wookey went along to have a look and described it like a scene from the Devil Wears Prada.
“It was great, she said it was the best thing she ever went to,” she said.
Mr Pratley said many of the judges, which also included June-Dally Watkins OAM, fashion designer Emma McLeod and Gary Johnson, from ‘Search for a Star’ competition expressed the view that Olive has the potential to become one of the leading models in Australia.
“Olive is only 15-years-old and already 5ft 10inches [178cms] tall ... she’s the perfect model,” he said.
