He gathered with colleagues from Bathurst Real Estate recently for a special morning tea – though, surprisingly, he didn’t celebrate with a slice of pineapple and poppy seed cake!
Possibly the longest serving salesperson in the Bathurst region, Mr Keogh commenced work in the industry in 1988 at Peter Rogers Real Estate, now known as Bathurst Real Estate.
Prior to that, he was a car salesman at Bathurst Motors.
Mr Keogh reflected one of the best things about his job was interacting with people.
“I’ve met a lot of lovely people, which makes working in this industry a joy,” he said.
“I’ve been lucky, I’ve worked with some great people, too – we have been known to have a laugh and a giggle.”
From people to prices, Mr Keogh said he’d seen a lot of changes in the industry.
“It’s a great experience dealing with families where you sell a house to the parents, then down the track you sell a house to the kids when they’re all grown up,” he said.
“The other interesting thing has been reselling the same house over again, from one owner to the next.”
Bathurst Real Estate principal Mick Whittaker said it was Mr Keogh’s loyalty that made him an outstanding employee.
“The one thing that sticks with me is Kev’s loyalty, it’s unwavering,” Mr Whittaker said.
“It’s very rare to see someone nowadays in the one job for 25 years, let alone in the one business for 25 years.
“Kev also has a good sense of humour, and that’s key to being a top salesperson.”
Mr Whittaker said his colleague was a great role model for other members of staff.
“I think our younger employees learn a lot from him, but he also learns from them,” he said. “Kev’s seen massive change in our industry – 25 years ago, there weren’t really any agency agreements. Things were done on a handshake.
“He knows how to price a property and he’s very good at reading people. When it comes to listing and selling somebody’s home, Kev gets it.”
