Owners Lindsay and Sue Gale have mixed feelings about closing the store which has been such a huge part of their lives.
“It is very bittersweet, but I have absolutely loved our time here,” Mr Gale said.
The couple have seen plenty of changes since they opened the store in February 1980.
“We started with records, then we had cassettes, we’ve seen VHS, mini disks, CDs, DVDs and everything in between,” Mr Gale said.
Mr Gale said the store had worked with all those changes, but the move to online music downloads had a significant impact on business.
“I guess it has taken its toll in the last few years. I believe the new generation just isn’t interested, they have not been exposed to physical music and haven’t walked into a record shop,” he said.
“This industry always relied on the next generation to keep it going.
“Now the younger generation are downloading online, getting music off iTunes and Spotify instead.”
Mr Gale said it was a shame that many in the younger generation were relying solely on an online environment which would not provide the same music exposure or osmosis that was found in a record store.
He said the store will hold a final farewell event on Sunday, to say goodbye to all customers, current and past staff members, suppliers and friends.
“Come and share your memories of your most memorable albums and reminisce about your most loved music,” he said.
“I also want to acknowledge the many staff who have worked here over the last 30 years and my wife Sue who has been the backbone of the shop.”
Funds raised from the event will be used to launch a Stop n Rock Scholarship to support young musicians from the Bathurst area.
The farewell event, at the Bathurst City Community Club, will include performances from local bands, barefoot bowls and a barbecue. The event will cost adults a $10 donation and children a $2 donation to the Stop n Rock Scholarship.
