BATHURST’S bicentenary celebrations are already expected to impress, but the standard is set to soar even higher with the addition of a new flag.

The Bathurst Lions Club has been actively seeking to source a flag emblazoned with the Bathurst crest and they now have the backing of Bathurst Regional Council to go ahead with the project.
Bathurst Lions Club board member and chair of flag raising Paul Haysom believes a flag that is unique to Bathurst will assist in telling the city’s story.
“We will be flying it on the main week of the bicentenary year,” he said.
The Bathurst City Flag will be flown on the Evans Bridge in addition to several others that showcase Bathurst’s story.
These will be the Union Jack, the Aboriginal flag, the Australian flag and the flag of Greater City of Sydney.
“It should be a very interesting display on the bridge that shows there is something different on,” Mr Haysom said.
Bathurst Lions Club will fund the flag, which is being designed and made in time for the bicentenary celebrations.
“I’m hoping to get it done this week,” Mr Haysom said. “It will be available for May.”
After the bicentenary celebrations, the Bathurst City Flag will become part of Bathurst Lions Club’s extensive collection and in the future will be used to welcome official guests to town.
