WHAT’S better than one McLean?
Two McLeans, unless of course you’re John McClane, Bruce Willis’ character in timeless Christmas flick Die Hard.
Nothing’s better than John McClane.
But, despite the difference in spelling, in brothers Sam and Scott McLean Orange Emus has found two forwards displaying all the hallmarks of Willis’ rough and tumble character - grit, determination, toughness and a no frills attitude.
And just like when Willis’ character took on German evil mastermind Hans Gruber in the 1988 blockbuster, the brothers will need all three characteristics when their side hosts the spirited Forbes Platypi at Endeavour Oval tomorrow.
The greens are flying high in second spot - behind cross-town rivals Orange City - and are coming off a clinical 41-12 win over last year’s premiers Dubbo, while the proud Forbes club is languishing in eighth place with just three wins from 13 starts.
“Neither of us played Forbes last time around, but watching it was a good, tough game,” Sam, sporting a black eye caused by none other than serial teammate injurer Andrew Cosgrove, said.
“From what I’ve heard they’ve started really well against a lot of sides and run out of puff a bit,” Scott added.
“I think it’s a case of doing what we did against Dubbo last weekend and trying to maintain that performance and momentum,” Sam said.

Sam McLean, 24, has plenty of experience in green dating back to the 2009 when he was a part of Emus’ colts premiership-winning side.’
Older brother Scott, 26, played for the club in 2012 and 2013 before moving away, and linked with the club again this season, and brings a wealth of experience thanks to his time in Wests Lions’ ACT Rugby Union top grade side.
“We hadn’t played together until this year, not in first grade anyway,” Sam said.
“Mum loves it, Nan loves it, the whole family loves it really,” Scott laughed.
“We don’t really notice it too much though, we might this weekend now,” Sam added.
“It’s a bonus having each other there I think. We’re really just going out to do our jobs, and have a crack.
“Yippee-ki-yay.”
Emus’ clash with the Platypi kicks off at 3.15pm tomorrow.
