Ageing and Disability Services Minister John Ajaka was in Bathurst to officially open the new facility, now called Vivability.
Vivability CEO Melinda Phillips said staff, clients and their families were impressed with the new facilities.
“When people come to the new facilities it is clear they are impressed such an effort has been taken to create a professional, exciting and versatile space,” Ms Phillips said.
“Our clients expect to spend time in a stimulating environment and one they are proud to come to and bring their families and friends.”
Ms Phillips said Interchange had decided, in 2016, to take on a vibrant, colourful new business name, one that told the story in one word.
Vivability’s committee president Andrew Bird said the new name highlighted the focus of the organisation – living with abilities in positive ways.
Bathurst MP Paul Toole, who also attended yesterday’s opening, said the services provided by Vivability were invaluable to the community.
“The service provides respite care for people living with a disability under the age of 65, in the form of recreation and leisure activities,” he said.
“It also has a number of programs that give clients the opportunity to meet new people their own age and enjoy new activities.”
Mr Toole said Vivability also had a support group for people who cared for someone with a disability.
While in Bathurst, Mr Ajaka also visited Verto where he looked at the organisation’s Transition to Work program, as well as meeting with participants.
