It is to be contested at Berry Bowling Club this coming Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31.
The final to be played on Monday, August 1 at Bomaderry Bowling club.
Our number 4 pennant team is the best 12 bowlers in the club.
They will represent not only the City Bowling Club, they will also be ambassadors for Bathurst when they play their first game against Sawtell at 9am Saturday morning.
They then will play at Toukley RSL Club on Saturday afternoon with the final section game against Caringbah on Sunday morning.
If the team can win their section they will progress to the semi-final on Sunday afternoon.
This team was successful when they won the district pennant flag by defeating teams from Orange, Bathurst and Lithgow which then had them playing for the Zone 4 Pennant flag at Wallerawang.
After defeating Coonabarabran and Forbes, they had earned the right to take their place in the final 16 teams in the state to contest the state final on Monday morning and bring the flag back to the Bathurst City Community Club.
Club President Jim Grives said there is a large number of supporters that will be travelling to Berry to cheer their team on.
He is confident that this team will perform at their very best and win their section before advancing through to the semi-final.
The hope is to continue through to the final which will be played on Monday morning August, 1.
The team is Skip Phil Gray, John Archer, Ian Schofield, Dennis Oxley, Skip Ross James, Geoff Thorne, Jordan Dennis, Geoff Waters, Skip Ken Waddell, Richard Simpson, Reece Harvey, John Finlay with the Manager/Reserve Brian Bromfield.

Social Bowls
Despite threatening skies, three games were played in the Tuesday Afternoon Social Competition this week with the Kevin Howard and Les Overs combination collecting a 20-16 win and the daily rink win over Terry Burke and Bruce Parr on rink two.
After a slow start which saw the Burke team out to a lead of 3-0 going into the third end, the Howard team began a four end run that saw them in front at the end of the sixth end 5-3.
The Burke team hit back with a three in the seventh, a two in the eighth and a one in the ninth ends to again hold the lead 9-5 going into the 10th end.
In a hard fought match, the Howard team scored in the next two ends to have the game all square on the card at 9 all at the end of the 11th end.
But again, the Burke team were not content to rest on their laurels and scored one shot wins on the next six ends to hold a six-point lead going into the 18th end.
The Howard team then regrouped and delivered nine unanswered points over the next five ends to steal the lead back 18-15 going into the 23rd end when the Burke team scored again.
But the Burke team could only manage to score one in the 23rd end and when the Howard team scored ones in the next two ends, they closed out the match with a four-shot advantage.
On rink three, the Tony McNamara and Ron McGarry combination delivered a 20-10 win over Noel Witney and Jim Clark and then took out the jackpot win back in the Club House.
In a never headed affair, the McNamara team had the lead out to 6-0 by the end of the sixth end when the Witney team scored first points on ends six to eight where they reached four points before the McNamara team decided to take over the scoring again.
In a blistering run of seven end wins, the McNamara team scored 11 shots to lead 17-4 before the Witney team got back on the score card but the game had gone by then.
Collecting two’s on the 16th and 17th ends, the Witney team were struggling and despite the final four ends being evenly split between the two sides, the Witney team just made it into double figures on the last end.
The triples match on rink one was a much closer match-up with Tony Hogan, Daryl Bellamy and Terry Clark scoring an 18-16 win over Derrick Huender, Greg Quartly-Scott and Gus Thurgood.
The Huender team scored first points which were countered immediately by the Hogan team and the stage was set for a real dog fight.
But then the Huender team rebounded with a five end run that gave them a lead of 7-1 by the end of the seventh end and they looked comfortably in control of the card.
The Hogan team, however should never be underestimated and they came back with a one then a two in the next two ends to stay in the hunt.
When the Huender team matched that effort in the next two ends to blow their lead out to 10-4, the Hogan team came back with a four on the 12th end to trail by just two shots at 10-8 going into the 13th end.
The Huender team scored one’s on the 13th and 14th ends to lead 12-8, but the Hogan team responded with a three on the 15th and 16th ends and a one on the 17th to steal the lead and as history records, the match.
The Huender team edged back into the lead by one shot in the 20th end but a three shot win on the final end gave the Hogan team the match by two shots.
News and events
Unfortunately, bad weather forced the cancellation of play in the Saturday Afternoon Social Competition this week however, there are many more opportunities in the works for weeks to come so Bowlers should keep an eye on the Notice Board to keep up to date.
Newly elected Bowls Secretary Kevin Howard and the new Bowls Committee met for the first time this week and a number of items were resolved.
Barry Quigley has accepted an invitation to join the Committee, Frank Farrell accepted an invitation to join Ted Stretton as the two Majellan representatives to the WDBA, and Peter Naylor has accepted an invitation to join Glenn and Tony Urza as the Club’s three selectors for the coming year.
It was agreed that Majellan would nominate teams in the fives and sixes Pennant Competition for the coming year and nominations will be called for soon.
Sunday, August 28 will be Majellan Bowling Club Presidents Day and Bowlers are encouraged to place their nominations on the Notice Board as soon as possible.
October 22nd and 23rd will be the Men’s Invitational Triples weekend and nominations will be called soon for this tournament.
That’s it for another busy week at the Majellan readers and I leave you with my favourite quote from the Very Best Exotic Marigold Hotel movie,
“In life, everything will be alright in the end, and if it’s not alright, then trust me, it is most definitely not the end”.
