Busloads of greyhound racing’s faithful came from across the state to attend the rally which was held at Hyde Park and organised by the NSW Greyhound Racing Alliance.
Mr Buttsworth has been involved in greyhound racing for 50 years and he said Premier Mike Baird made a “knee-jerk reaction” in banning the sport following a report into the industry.
“There were more than 37,000 signatures on the petition which was presented to Mr Foley [NSW Opposition and Labor leader Luke Foley] at parliament,” he said.
“It’s up to parliament now to make their decision. The Greyhound Alliance have put to parliament the flaws in the report.”
Reports on the number of people who attended the rally vary between 1000 and 3500, with supporters travelling from NSW, Victoria and Queensland to attend.
