Principals Australia Institute (PAI) presented Mr Hastings and four other NSW school leaders with the award on November 28 for their commitment and dedication to education.
PAI deemed Mr Hastings a “highly articulate and passionate advocate” who has shown immense dedication to achieving the best possible outcome for students.
The organisation also highlighted his involvement in a number of groups to better the educational experience and help with the professional learning of other leaders.
Mr Hastings, who will retire from teaching at the end of the year, said he felt honoured to be recognised at this point in his career.
“I’m really proud of it,” he said. “I’m a bit surprised. I guess anyone who is recognised by their own industry would be really proud.”
