Crews commenced the work early on Monday morning, interfering with the busy drop-off period for the school, which doesn’t close for the year until Thursday afternoon.

The road was reduced to one lane, with traffic controllers in place to direct vehicles along Eglinton Road and in and out of All Saints’ College.

Cars were queued in either direction and some motorists reported waiting in line for as long as fifteen minutes before being able to proceed through the area.

Similar conditions were experienced later in the afternoon when parents were collecting their children from school.

The current roadworks is the third attempt in recent months to repair the same section of Eglinton Road.

A second resurfacing job was called for in June after the road began to break up within two weeks of it first being resurfaced.

Councillor Warren Aubin at the time said the resurfacing efforts of the contractor did not meet with Bathurst Regional Council’s standards, calling it “a woeful excuse for a fix”.

In August, council confirmed it was undertaking further pavement testing to determine the best road design to ensure long term effective resurfacing works on Eglinton Road.

It decided to wait until the summer school holiday when there were better weather conditions and less traffic to contend with.

The opinions of residents are mixed, but many appear eager for the roadworks to be carried out now, even if the timing conflicts with the final days of the All Saints’ College school year.

“Just do it properly this time and stop wasting our rates and tax money,” Matt Woodward wrote on the Western Advocate Facebook page.

Tiffany Phillips and Roni O’Connor also expressed similar comments.

“[It is] good that they're fixing that road again, just hope they do it properly this time,” Ms Phillips wrote.

Ms O’Connor said, “Don’t wait for school holidays to fix a road… just fix it.”
