It was the first official engagement for the new senior leadership of Denison College: Ken Barwick, who has been welcomed as principal of Bathurst High Campus, Michael Sloan, who is now in his third year as principal of Kelso High Campus, and Denison College principal Craig Petersen.
The High Achievers Awards Reception is a prestigious event on the Denison College of Secondary Education calendar.
The award recipients are the highest achieving students in years 10 and 11, as nominated by Bathurst High Campus and Kelso High Campus respectively, and the reception is also used to recognise Band 6 results or an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank over 90 in the Higher School Certificate by year 12.
“These awards are significantly different to the campus presentation nights as we recognise both campuses in the arena of our educational and community partnerships,” Denison College community liaison officer Louise Farmer said.
“This year the reception was held in the new engineering building at CSU Bathurst Campus, and students were congratulated by Head of Bathurst Campus Associate Professor Chika Anyanwu as well as long-time supporter of Denison College, Councillor Gary Rush, mayor of Bathurst.
“The event was capably managed by the school captains and leadership teams from both campuses. Foyer entertainment was provided by year 12 Kelso High Campus music student Emily Geerkens, and catering by year 12 Kelso High Campus hospitality students Nikayla Carr-Smith, Rebecca Thornbury, Tegan Sumner, Kayla Andrews and Josi Petford.”
The Acknowledgement of Country at the awards reception was by Kelso High Campus student Susannah Winkelman.
