Bathurst Panthers to wear special jumpers

WHEN Bathurst Panthers’ premier league side runs out onto Carrington Park on Friday night for its showdown with fierce Group 10 rivals St Pat’s, the players will be wearing special Anzac Day jumpers.

It is the second time Panthers have hosted the Anzac Day Rugby League Memorial Trophy fixtures between the two clubs.

As such, this year’s jumper features an image of HMAS Bathurst on the front and HMAS Sydney on the back.

“From the word go in 2015, with that being the centenary of World War I, we did a special jumper theme with an image of Gallipoli,” Bathurst Panthers president Dennis Comerford said.

“We did a scene from World War I the first time, so this time we have taken the next step and done something from World War II and we decided to do a naval theme.

“I was aware that HMAS Bathurst was active in World War II, so what better way to do it than put that image on the front?”
