The closure will take effect on Friday – just one day after it was announced by Orange City Council.
Orange City Council infrastructure committee chair and councillor Glenn Taylor said a two-kilometre section of the bypass between Bathurst Road and Icely Road had to be closed to allow for a specialised seal to set and cure.
“Summer Street used to be filled with the sights and sounds and smells of heavy vehicles passing through every few minutes and we will have to put up with that again for a short time,” he said.
Cr Taylor said contractors were ripping up the top 300 millimetres of the road to add the new surface while also adding drainage channels to help clear water.
The bypass opened in August 2012.
