One Central West team to keep an eye on will be the under 14.5s, filled to the brim with a crop of talented Bathurst Giants and Bushrangers players.
The team contains a grand total of 13 Bathurst players. That’s two-thirds of the squad.
Bathurst connections to the side continue through Bushrangers under 12s coach Casey White, who is in charge of the Central West team.
The bulk of the side will have had over a month together under Casey’s control, as part of the GWS Giants under 13s to 15s development squad, by the time the carnival rolls around.
Casey is hopeful the extra time together as a group will give his side an edge at the Shoalhaven competition.
“I’ve got them together as a group over a 13 to 14-week period. The kids will all know each other by the time the carnival is on,” he said.
“We’ve got together a great core group of kids in this squad and they’re all going to be familiar with each others’ game.
“Our 14s have shown really good signs in their time training together. Hopefully with the addition of a couple more 14 year old players to the 14.5 team we’ll be even stronger.
“The strong group of Bushrangers and Giants in the side is a great sign footy in Bathurst as the years progress.”
Representing the Bathurst Giants in the side will be Jayden and Zac Yandle, Lachlan Macauley, Rocco Yates, Liam Cooke, Joey Langfield and Daniel Belfanti.
Bushrangers are represented in the 14.5s through Connor Lynch, Bailey Ronan, Jack Carr, Tyrone Trindall, Jake Nugent and Reece Belmonte.
The remainder of the team is comprised of Orange Tigers, Cowra Blues and Northern Riverina League representatives.
White’s 14.5s team will take on teams from Shoalhaven, Illawarra and South Coast from June 30.
Nine Bushrangers players have been named in the youth girls’ side for the Shoalhaven Carnival, including new NSW/ACT representative Mariah Gilchrist.
Seven Bathurst representatives will line up for the under 12s while a sizeable collection of 10 Giants players and two Bushrangers juniors will take to the field in the under 17s.
