BATHURST celebrities dancing to raise money for cancer research have raised a record breaking $55,400.
The event, held at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre on Saturday night, drew a crowd of 250 people.
Katherine Hodges, community relations co-ordinator with the NSW Cancer Council Western, said they were ecstatic with how the night went.
“Last year’s event raised $40,000, so to get $55,400, we’re really happy,” she said.
“The stars did an absolutely amazing job. Alecia Duffy, the general manager of Westpac in Bathurst, raised $10,000 individually, which is insane.”
Three awards were given on the night: the highest fundraiser, which went to Alecia Duffy, the People’s Choice, which went to Bruce Tasker, and the Judge’s Choice, which went to Adam Carey.
But Ms Hodges said all the stars were awesome.
The new venue, Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre, was also well received.
“We wanted to make it more of a production main event, and people really loved it. There was a big photo wall and red carpet,” she said.
Money raised on the night goes into research, advocacy, prevention and support, including money which is invested locally.
