Fog is one thing. Frost laying on the front lawns is another. Smoke rising from the occasional chimney on the horizon is a third thing.
What Parade didn't expect to see recently, however, was a fox go trotting across the tar in front of the car.
Parade did a double take at first, wondering if he was seeing what he thought he was seeing. But it was definitely a fox.
It wasn't particularly big, but it was big enough considering it was roaming about in suburbia with (presumably) not a care in the world.
It crossed to the other side of the road and leapt nimbly on to the lawn in someone’s yard and then Parade lost sight of it as he continued his journey.
The last time Parade was so surprised by an animal encounter in Bathurst was when a possum ran across his path and up a tree as he wandered home along Mitre Street late one night.
New battle for Crimson Royale
IT’S been a big couple of weeks for the young lads from local band Crimson Royale.
First, they had their first single released last week after it was recorded as part of their prize for winning the battle of the bands at the Bathurst and District Relay For Life earlier this year (the story about the single’s recording and release appeared in the Western Times this week).
Now they have entered that single, Drive Me Crazy, in the Triple J Unearthed High competition, which aims to find the best new high school music act in Australia.
The best entries in the competition will be played on national radio and the winner will be flown to youth radio station Triple J to record, remix or master a track.
As well, the winning band will get professional music industry advice, and Triple J will come to the band members’ school. It’s not bad, is it?
So will the winning run continue for Crimson Royale?
Parade has heard Drive Me Crazy and he thinks the talented teens have a great chance.
