Bathurst Regional Council installed the sign just to the right of the road entrance to Learmonth Park and it was formally unveiled by Leary's two children, Margaret Allen (Springwood) and Rob Learmonth (Nunderi, Northern NSW) on Sunday.
Ron ’Leary’ Learmonth (1910 – 1969), after whom Learmonth Park in Kelso is named, was a much-loved teacher, sportsmaster and sports coach at Bathurst High School from 1943 – 65, where he coached numerous rugby league teams, athletics teams, and boys and girls cricket teams.
An outstanding sportsman himself, ‘Leary’ was a well-known cricketer and Rugby League sports administrator in Bathurst.
Among those attending the unveiling of the sign were Bathurst High ex-students, and local sporting club members. The ceremony was followed by morning tea.
