The annual Boxing Day meeting, which features a fast-class race named in honour of Shirley Turnbull, is one of three finalists in its category for the best Carnival of Cups meeting staged in New South Wales last season.
The Bathurst club will be pitted against the Wagga Cup meeting and Leeton’s Breeders Plate meeting for the honours in the best club cup meeting with a feature race to a maximum of $50,000.
Last season’s Shirley Turnbull Memorial feature held Group 2 status and was won by KerryAnn Turner’s Aztec Bromac – a $27.90 outsider.
“It’s a privilege to have a horse that’s good enough to go in this race. The Turnbull family is such a great part of the sport, so it really is a privilege to win one of their races,” Turner said.
The winning club will be announced on October 28.
