Palmer will be part of the Red Dog Rugby Club contingent which will be at Ashwood Park on Saturday for a rugby 10s tournament.
The Red Dog Rugby Club will be the hosts of the tournament, which will see members of Bathurst Bulldogs’ premiership winning colts side, a senior Bulldogs outfit, Eastern Suburbs and the Newcastle Seaman in action as well.
They will do battle in 13-minute games for the Red Dog Cup and Red Dog Plate.
“I played for Bathurst in 1998, 2000 and 2001 then I came to Sydney to play for Old Iggies and I coached at Old Iggies,” Palmer said.
“I formed the Red Dog Rugby Club, it’s a combination of players from Sydney and the country who can’t commit to a full season of rugby, but do want to play 10s rugby.
“We’ve been coming up from Sydney to play Bulldogs for the last 10 years or so, but in 2016 I decided to form a formal tournament.”
Last year’s inaugural Bathurst 10s saw Eastern Suburbs win the cup, while Bathurst Bulldogs’ grade side lifted the plate.
Competition for both pieces of silverware will be stiff.
“It’s going to be fast-paced, action-packed rugby – it will be short and sharp games of rugby,” Palmer said. “Hopefully we can come away with a trophy this year.”
The action will commence at 12.30pm on Saturday, with the finals at 4.03pm and 4.23pm.
