When the season gets underway this Sunday Bathurst will boast two teams in under 14s, along with teams in under 12s and 16s.
The Bathurst 14s Green side will act as the first string squad while 14s Yellow will be a development squad.
Bill Hall and Craig Windus are excited to see how their 14s Yellow team – comprised mostly of bottom-age players – will handle the strong competition.
They start their season with a game away to Mudgee.
“A lot of these players will still be in this age group next year,” Hall said.
“We put in an application to the Mitchell Cricket Council to make this team during the off-season and they approved it.
“I think it’s a fantastic move that’s going to allow for more of our kids to experience cricket at a higher level.
“It’s something we probably should have done a few years ago because there’s always been enough talent in town for us to pick more than one team.”
The remainder of Bathurst’s teams all have away fixtures against Orange.
The 14s Green team will be coached by Clint Bryant. They play at Jack Brabham Oval.
Under 16s play at Country Club Oval, with Phil Cant and Mike Mitchell as coaches.
Shane Broes will coach the under 12s team. His side play on Jack Brabham Oval 2.
