Her owner, Peter Trevor Jones, a horse trainer at Lagoon said he heard Milla barking and knew straight away that something was wrong.
Milla was in a snake proof area where he trains his horses, but somehow the tiger snake managed to get through the netting.
“It’s the second time she’s been bitten, we bundled her straight into the ute, she seemed okay but started vomiting.
“The snake was dead, there was a bit of blood on Milla’s chest, so we just got her straight in the ute and came in.”
Mr Trevor Jones said he brought the dead snake in case the vet needed to see it for the antivenin.
After undergoing emergency surgery at the Stewart Street Veterinary Clinic Milla was still touch and go, but she eventually turned the corner, and was released on Monday, back to full health.
Mr Trevor Jones said he had been seeing snakes everywhere, and wanted people to be aware, especially as Milla was in a snake proof area.
“I drag the [horse] track every night and by morning there are 10 snake tracks.
“On Thursday morning I saw two snakes mating by the side of the track, they are everywhere.”
He thanked the staff at Stewart Street Vet Clinic for treating Milla.
“Coming in from Lagoon was the longest 20 minutes of my life,” he said.
He said on Friday he was concerned because this is the second time she’s been bitten.
